That’s why the focus here is on chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and food chemistry. Only once you’ve mastered these subjects will you delve more deeply into food chemistry. The standard duration of study is six semesters. However, you may take up to nine semesters to complete your bachelor’s degree.

To help you get oriented during your first semester, you'll find a printed copy of your class schedule here. A detailed overview of the first two semesters is available on the next page.

It is important that you complete your orientation exam by the end of the third semester. This means that you must pass the internship, including the exam in General Chemistry (Module BA-LMC-2).

To complete the bachelor’s degree program, a total of 180 ECTS credits must be earned. ECTS credits, also known as credits or performance points, are units used to “measure” the amount of work required. For each successfully completed course, the university awards performance points (LP), which are intended to reflect the average workload. The basis for awarding LP is the assumption of an average workload for the program, measured in hours. This assumption is a workload of 1,800 hours per academic year, which corresponds to 60 LP. One performance point therefore corresponds to 30 hours of work.

Assessments take the form of graded exams (e.g., written exams or oral exams) or ungraded coursework. Registration for exams is typically done online. Other forms of assessment may include, for example, practical assignments, written papers, or presentations. Successful completion of internships is often a prerequisite for taking the corresponding written exam. For some written exams, prerequisites must be met; for example, in the Mathematics module, successfully completing the exercise sheets is a prerequisite for passing the module. Most modules include one (or in some cases, several) exams. Module grades are calculated based on the individual grades from the exams associated with the module, weighted according to credit points; that is, they may correspond to the grade of a written or oral exam or be calculated from multiple components. Ungraded modules are not included in the evaluation; simply passing the module is sufficient.

The scope of courses is specified in semester weekly hours (SWS). One SWS corresponds to 45 minutes per week over the entire lecture period. The types of instruction include lectures (V), exercises (Ü), laboratory practicals (P), and associated seminars. In addition—though not listed in the curriculum—students may attend tutorials (study groups led by fellow students) for certain courses. Credit points (LP) are awarded not only for attending courses but also for independent work (preparation and follow-up, etc.) and the exam itself.

All that and much more you can look up in the Module Handbook. Check it out.
