What is the orientation week?

Two weeks before the start of each winter semester (this year from October 12 to October 16, 2026), the Chemistry and Biosciences Student Council ("Fachschaft") organizes an orientation period ("O-Phase") for first-year students, during which we show and explain the most important things about your studies, the university, and the city. We hope this not only gives you a great start to your studies but also allows you to get to know your future fellow students right away.

Note: It is definitely worth registering (even if you have not yet received confirmation of your enrollment)!

The events include, among other things:

  •  Creating a schedule for the first semester
  •  Tour of the campus
  •  City rally
  • …and many other fun activities

So if you are starting to study biology, chemistry, chemical biology, food chemistry, or biology/chemistry for education in Karlsruhe next semester, this is the right place for you. Register now!

Hello to all future master’s students! Our orientation phase is primarily intended for students who are new to Karlsruhe and want to get to know the city, the university, and new people. You are welcome to also register for the orientation phase using the online form.
Local master’s students can advise you if you have any questions specific to your degree program. Feel free to contact us during the introductory event.

How can you participate in the orientation week?

First, you must apply for a place at the university (you can find more details under Starting your Studies). You will then receive feedback from the university as to whether your application has been accepted and, if so, your enrollment documents. If you would like to participate in the orientation week, you can register using the link below. Shortly before the orientation phase, we will send you the complete program with all the necessary information.

When does the orientation week take place?

The orientation phase takes place every winter semester two weeks before the start of the lecture period (this year from October 12, 2026, to October 16, 2026). A diverse program of information events, guided tours, and communal fun activities is offered on a voluntary basis. Be prepared for events to take place throughout the week.

Below, you will find a rough weekly schedule of the events awaiting you. In addition, there will be other smaller activities organized within your respective tutor groups.

What about the costs?

Our information events and other ecents from the university are, of course, all free of charge.

Unfortunately, you will have to pay for your own food and drink. Other events, such as admission fees or costs for pub visits, may incur additional costs. Please also be aware that some events do not take place on the university campus.

Das Gemeinsame Essen am Dienstag ist für alle kostenlos.
